SO YOU THINK YOU ARE NOT GETTING A LOT OF CAFFEINE ON A DAILY BASIS?

Caffeine is a powerful drug, chances are you’re not just enjoying your daily caffeine intake, you’re probably addicted or at least habituated to it.

Caffeine acts directly on your nervous system and is classified as a central nervous system stimulant. It brings about almost immediate sense of clearer thought and lessens fatigue. It also stimulates the release of stored sugar from your liver, which accounts for the ‘lift” that coffee, cola, chocolate and the energy drinks give.

Side effects of excess Caffeine
1. Heavy stress on your endocrine system. Can lead to adrenal exhaustion.
2. Nervousness and jitterness.
3. Can accumulate in your fatty tissues—and is not easily eliminated.
4. Drug withdrawal when trying to get off Caffeine.
5. Robs the body of B vitamins, especially Inositol, Vitamin C, Zinc, Potassium and other minerals.
6. Increases the acidity in your gut and can cause rectal itching.

NEW ROLE FOR VITAMIN E UNCOVERED

NEW ROLE FOR VITAMIN E UNCOVERED

A research paper published in Nature Communications Dec 20,2011, unveiled new findings concerning the ability of alpha tocopherol (Vitamin E) to maintain and repair the cell membrane: a permeable barrier surrounding the cell that separates its contents from the environment while allowing the transport of necessary substances.

Researchers from Georgia Health Sciences University stated “Considerable evidence, dating from early studies, shows that muscle health is dependent on an adequate supply of dietary vitamin E”.

In the current research, Dr MdNeil and colleagues demonstrated that treatment of cultured muscle cells with vitamin E, results in increased membrane repair to injured cells. Vitamin E’s antioxidant function is one of the repair promoting benefits, as well as its ability to insert itself into the cell membrane due to its lipid or fat solubility.

It is nice to see some good research coming out about Vitamin E. Most of the negative papers only used the synthetic version of Vitamin E or d.l alpha tocopheryl. I recommend your using the natural form of Vitamin E which is d-alplha tocopherol.

GLUTEN… YES OR NO

GLUTEN… YES OR NO

In 2010, the market for gluten free foods reached $2.6 billion. A 30% increase since 2006. What gives?

The answer is complicated. About 3 million Americans have Celiac disease–an autoimmune illness that damages the lining of their digestive tract, which when exposed to gluten can trigger a host of serious symptoms, including vomiting and severe abdominal pain. To these people a gluten free diet is essential to their health.

Unfortunately, most junk foods have high amounts of gluten. For people who think they are intolerant to gluten, they should give up gluten for 2 weeks, then reintroduce it into their diet. They will know if they are intolerant to gluten very quickly.

What is gluten, you might ask? It is a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye.

Here are a few steps to follow to become gluten free:

1. Read the labels of the foods you are about to buy or eat. Gluten may be labelled semolina, durum or enriched flour, which is very common in processed foods.

2. Eat whole foods instead of processed ones. Fruits, vegetables, beans, meats, seafood, dairy products, nuts and seeds are all naturally gluten free.

3. Try the following grains instead. Brown rice and quinoa can be used instead of wheat.

4. Gluten free does not mean fat free.

If you think you are intolerant to gluten or just want to cut back or cut out wheat, start eating a healthy diet with foods that don’t have as ingredients what processed foods do.
